Elsie Kryworuchka

Obituary of Elsie Kryworuchka

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Saturday February 17th 2024 after a brief time in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Elsie Kryworuchka lived an amazing 97 years. She was born August 1st 1926. She lived in the same home since marrying Peter that they built on the Kryworuchka homestead in 1948. Her parents, John and Dora Bewcyk, where she was raised is only a mile away as the crow flies. Elsie attended Verboska Elementary School and completed her education with a grade 12 diploma in 1944 from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. Elsie spent her entire life on the farm which she loved dearly and would never ever have considered leaving, even after losing her husband at the very young age of 51. All of her family, neighbors and numerous friends remember her amazing flower beds, her love of gardening, the wonderful baked products and the delicious meals she cooked that were filled with her love. In the past couple of decades she very much enjoyed watching the daily game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. This was pretty much all that she enjoyed on TV and never missed an episode. Elsie also watched many church services each Sunday when unable to attend the Roblin EMC. Although she never curled, she watched as many bonspiels that she could and had no problem telling the skips and curlers what they should and shouldn't be doing. Right up to the moment she had the brain bleed she was playing Kaiser with her son Gerry, her daughter Beverly, and Bev's friend Mervin. Every time they came home to the farm to visit Kaiser was often played after breakfast, after lunch and after supper till bedtime. She also loved playing scrabble. Her other favorite games were crib and skippo and was very happy to get the ladies from Robin coming to play with her. She won playing both games the day before she had her stroke.

Elsie was pre- deceased by her full brother Nick Bewcyk and step-sisters and step-brothers Peter, Bill, Dora, Katie, Margaret, Lena, Mary and Rose.  She is survived by her two children: son Gerald Kryworuchka on the home farm; and daughter Beverly Becker and partner Mervin Weinrauch of Saskatoon. Grandchildren: Clayton Becker of Vanscoy, Clinton Becker (and wife Danielle) of Vanscoy, Twyla Beier (and husband Victor) of Stockholm. Also great grandchildren: Jaylan, Meghan, Victoria, Logan, Jeremy, Nathan, Sarah, Kristopher and Justin.

Elsie took each day one at a time, she never worried about the past or what tomorrow might bring.  She found and felt a closeness to Jesus, and faithfully read the Daily Bread and Bible while siting by the front window watching the many species of birds that enjoyed the blue juniper and bird feeders.  Their handsome cat Gilbert was also very close to her and a great companion on days that Gerry was away from the farm.  One of her favorite Bible verses was “AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD” - Joshua 24:15 V2. Rest in peace dear Elsie.
